Congratulations to Mere!
Back in 1960 or so, when I was one of the soon-to-be-ex-Brownies, they called it "flying up". Do they still give out wings for the girls to put on their uniforms or sashes? But the Scouts have changed a lot of things since my day, so I wouldn't be too surprised if they've changed that, too.

And I like those green shoes!

yes, they still "fly up" to juniors. She got a pair of wings pinned to the back of the brownie vest. The wings, rainbow patch and bridging ceremony patch will go on her new green Junior vest. I'm going out to get the vest today and iron on the patches. I know we'll loose all the pieces and parts if we don't.

Mere will probably take several GS workshops this summer and will have a 1/2 dozen junior badges before the troop starts up again in the fall.

Her troop leader is married to a career military man (navy) who is serving in Hawaii and on his ship for the next 3 years. She apparently started the girls in GS because it's one activity that is portable and doesn't matter if you have to move on a regular basis.
