I gave Harrison a 4, though it's more because he didn't accomplish anything in his very short presidency than anything bad he did.

I ranked them all in terms of what they did as president. If you were to rank them in terms of whole life experience, I'd give John Adams a few more points than I did (a 6) because he accomplished a lot before he became president.

Yeah, Harrison is a toughie. He didn't do any actual damage because he was too sick to get out of bed. Now there's a presidential legacy.

I gave Harrison a ten on the basis that he did the least damage to the country of any President in US history.

I gave very low marks to such founding fathers as Adams, Jefferson and Adams because whatever they may have done prior to 1789 as presidents they were various degrees of awful. Adams was a non entity who backed the Alien and Sedition Acts. Jefferson gutted the army and navy and then picked fights with the Supreme Court (not to mention screwed Aaron Burr) and Madison blithely walked into a the useless War of 1812.

While I consider myself a bit of an historian, I really don't know enough about a few of these to rate them that precisely. No one is perfect, and few are so awful, at least up until W. Washington cannot be overrated: With almost anyone else, the US would be a kingdom. I used to like Jackson, but genocide lowers his rating a lot. Harrison is tough, but I decided that picking such a bad VP and not understanding how weather works gives him a three.

The Adams' were both pretty lousy presidents, and the rest were generally pretty good.

1-10 is too fine-grained a scale for such a subjective matter. Washington was a great man and a great president. Adams, Jefferson, and Madison were great men but varying degrees of poor presidents. Monroe was not such a great man but a fairly good president. The younger Adams was an excellent president but a lousy politician. Jackson was a superb politician but a positively evil president. (And not just because of the Trail of Tears.) Van Buren was also a superb politician but an ineffective president. And Harrison was shaping up to be a very weak president.
