Various Illinois politicos are asking for a pardon for former Governor George Ryan, whose corruption in office led to a lot of people in jail and several deaths.  One paper wrote: “Instead of selling license plates, [Ryan] gets to make them.”

Otherwise, Ryan will stay in jail till 2013.

Good.  Let him rot there.

Blago is pushing for the pardon because he's trying to set precedent since he's probably going to need one himself in the future.

From the look of this morning's news, I think you're right.

Of course he could still appoint himself to Obama's seat in hopes that the attention would fade once he's out of the state. Of course that didn't work out so hot for Stevens...

Is Ryan's former deputy campaign manager and former assistant Transportation Secy (under Bush 1) Richard Juliano amongst those seeking pardons?

I ask because I went to high school with him.

I'm truly disappointed in Durbin. What do you suppose his genuine motivation was?

No idea.

I am reminded of a comment somebody made about the late Roman Republic, to the effect that a politician who ended a term in power was almost always charged with something, and was usually guilty of the charge, whatever it was.

I'm wondering how fast Scott Fawell gets out. He was my boss' boss and dad's boss at McCormick Place.
